Kae Sun "Lion On A Leash"

Kae Sun is a Canadian-based Ghanaian singer who is breaking onto the scene with his supple, reggae-inflected guitar-driven rock. Born and raised in Accra, his music rallies for peace and rails against corruption over easy, organic percussion and gutsy guitar. His debut album, Lion On A Leash is available now and we’re loving the tracks like “Jungle Law” and “Free.”  Check out the video for his single “Lion On A Leash” below. [...]

Ses'fikile: TKZee returns!

Jostling about in the back of a matatu from Nairobi’s South B suburb to the city centre a couple months ago with TKZee’s Fiasco blaring, I had to smile at the memory it evoked: Members  and former school mates Tokollo “Magesh” Tshabalala, Kabelo “Bouga Luv” Mabalane, and Zwai Bala sheepishly confessing publicly they’d named their then hit in error. They’d meant “fiesta”.  As in, a celebration. It was 1999 around [...]

K'Naan's Waving Flag remade for FIFA world cup coke ads

I always pictured synchronized stadium dancing when I first heard this song. And apparently, so did the people at Coca-Cola apparently one of the official sponsors of the FIFA World Cup in 2010 in South Africa. An abbreviated version of Waving Flag plays over all the coke-sponsored radio and telly adverts to do with the big event. K’Naan’s Kigali rep tells me this was filmed in Mexico at the Plaza de Toros. Right [...]

Video: The Noisettes "Every Now and Then"

The Noisettes are simply not famous enough. Going on style alone, their images should be splattered across tabloids and there should be ’round the clock coverage of their mundane goings-ons. I mean, just check their video for “Every Now and Then.” Are there people that look better than Shingai Shoniwa? Every now and then we learn a little something: brown people + autumn + vintage threads + love = amazing! We need [...]

Video: David Guetta and Estelle "One Love"

Estelle is doing the dance thing again with this collaboration with main room DJ David Guetta. Really, it’s the same generic euro-house Guetta is famous for. Although we kinda wish we could flash a hand signal and make hobos and store clerks pop-lock in harmony. And we agree with the ladies at Parlour – Guetta looks like he wants to cut one in every scene. But, really, when it comes to hilarious [...]
