Two of my fave faves on a track that is every bit as good and as sexy as you imagine it would be. This is the Ancestral mix of the collaboration with Teedra Moses on Boddhi Satva’s album Transitions due out September 18th. (It also appears on Teedra’s brand new album Cognac & Conversation) Other contributors on Boddhi’s album include Kaysha, Dudley Perkins, Mohamed Diaby, Pebbles, Karun, Davido and Omar. Production […]
Following Fight for Love, Kwabs brings the focus back to his distinct soulful brooding baritone on this recording of Look Over Your Shoulder, stripped of producer SOHN’s foreboding strings and synths, and which can be found on the version made for the album Love+War, headed for release on September 11. A little extra in case you missed it, watch Willing and Able too, the outstanding deep housey number by producer duo Disclosure premiered at the […]
M3NSA, the pioneering Ghanaian producer/ songwriter and performer also known for his solo work and conquests with FOKN Bois and Budapest’s seasoned DJ/music producer and instrumentalist ELO, known for his work with Irie Maffia & Sena together are Hungary-based REDRED. For Balcony TV here they bass up the streets of Budapest with a rather sweet father-to-child ode For You
Sounds like: All the fierceness you’d expect in the love child of Janelle Monae and Azaelia Banks. The low-down: First off, you can’t help but notice Pink Oculus (Esperanzah Denswil) is absolutely beautiful. Not just by looking at her but hearing the cocksure lyrics by the Dutch/Surinamese newcomer whose manifesto reads: “I Write, I Produce, I Slay”. Her impression on Belgium’s premier Hip-hop tastemaker Lefto landed her an invitation to perform at one of […]
It has been quite some time since Kommanda Obbs dropped some new music but the impact of his triumphant voyage into music in 2011 can still be felt years after the fact. His first album, Tšepe, swept many Basotho and several others off their feet. Tšepe came to describe the brand of hip hop that Obbs became known for – an impressive weaving of the Sesotho language into song, complemented by beats that were […]
After you’ve watched the video for Satan Be Gone, the lead single for her album Bed of Stone watch singer/songwriter Asa describe how she toiled through the old writers’ block only to discard an entire album in order to arrive at her latest work.
Very rarely does one see stories about the hustle and bustle of Lesotho’s urban areas. Perhaps it is improbable to some that the ‘sleepy’, relatively mysterious kingdom with its rugged but picturesque landscapes and its lofty peaks gushing volumes of its white gold has anything to bustle about. Lesotho, the name, seems to always conjure images of a man wearing a Seanamarena and mokorotlo (the Basotho hat) on his trusty […]
Laurette La Perle, who is sometimes called the ‘female Fally Ipupa’, is a songstress from the Democratic Republic of Congo. She is currently signed to Brown Touch Entertainment, a label which also represents acts such as Toofan and Koffi Olomide. She’s best known for her songs Love Story and Terminus, and perhaps owning to their popularity, in 2014 she was awarded the AFRIMA for Best Female Artist in Central Africa. […]
Since dropping her Mango EP a few months ago and Noir before then, The Olawumi has been working towards the release of her next EP, the Crowns EP. To bide time until its release, the New Jersey-based songstress with Nigerian roots has released a single called Over. The soul-trap star departs slightly from the themes she expresses in the song Come Back from the Mango EP where she is heard […]
As prepares to release an album in the spring/summer of 2015, Kelela has shared with us an undressed version of her song, “Enemy.” The original version which appeared on her acclaimed mixtape Cut 4 Me was a dark, almost moody song with a late 90s R&B bounce. It sounded like it might have been on the Romeo Must Die soundtrack. Now it has been stripped of all the bells and […]
The last time we heard from Faarrow was over a year ago when they released the singles Say My Name and Rule The World. We learnt in this period that they are also attracted to mash-ups. They performed this mash-up of Wide Awake and No Church In The Wild and Gotye’s Somebody That I Used to Know and J.Cole’s Can’t Get Enough for example. Throughout 2014, they have been dropping […]
Before the release of her EP For Madeleine last month, Seinabo Sey gave us this acoustic cover of Clean Bandit’s 90s-inspired electro hit Rather Be featuring Jess Glynne. Her version of the song bears almost no resemblance to the buoyant original. Even without the piano and the monochromatic visuals, her smoky, smouldering vocals create a mellower, more sombre song. She truly made the song her own.
M.anifest just released the video for his single No Shortcut to Heaven, the fourth single from his EP Apae: The Price of Free. You might have noticed that it was a favourite on his Apae Taxi Diaries. Or not. It was produced by G Mo and features another Ghanaian music titan Obrafour. M.anifest’s team have gone all out for the video. In a narrative that seems to tie in with […]
Back like you never heard before, the drama soul queen Temi Dollface part raps and part sings on this Just Like That (Story) - the first single off her forth-coming EP. Listen to and download the track below she composed, arranged and and co-produced with producer Jo Pee.
Black Swan was the first single Well$ released from his critically acclaimed MTSYD: The Revenge of the African Booty Scratcher. However, it was during the WeekofWell$ that he released the official video for the song. During the WeekofWell$, which began on his birthday, the Charlotte-based rapper released several new singles among them Stella ’95, ’98 Juvie and Fight. The Black Swan video was directed by Jay Sprogell and the song […]
