This Day launches Arise Magazine

This Day media group (they, of the celeb-studded Africa Rising concerts in the UK, US and Nigeria) are launching an African fashion and pop culture mag called Arise. We caught a sneak peek of the launch issue over at Bella Naija. With so many mags folding over on this side, congrats to This Day. The images look stunning. Let’s hope the mission is the same.

The web is abuzz with the new “Amulets” line from South African diamond company, DeBeers. The line, in next month’s Elle magazine (above), features blinged-out African masks and art. DeBeers owns 40% of the world’s diamond trade, and is the same company that sponsored apartheid and has frequently been accused of human rights violations of it’s workers. Olympic Fashion, Angolan style

Did you catch the Angolan Olympic team at the opening ceremony in Beijing? In a sea of white pants and buttoned up suit jackets, it was nice to see they chose to use colors and fabrics that represent the continent.
