Africans are talented that is no doubt. 15-year-old Sarah Ikumu, who lives in Milton Keynes, UK, got Simon Cowell to press the Golden Buzzer when she appeared on a recent auditions episode of Britain’s Got Talent. In mid-April the talented singer, whose voice belies her very young age, appeared on the show and got a standing ovation after her performance of the song And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going. Only the voices with enough power, depth and maturity can handle or master this song, and since it is considered the song that “made” Jennifer Hudson, it was easy to see why Cowell initially had doubts about a 15-year-old handling it. But she wowed him, the other judges and the audience, and he pressed the Golden Buzzer straight away.
The Golden Buzzer allows her to go straight to the live semi-final show. Also, if anything is to be believed, having Simon Cowell endorse her on the show might lead to stardom. It is to be hoped!
I still can’t believe that a voice of such power and maturity came out of that young girl’s body. Amazing stuff.
According to the Daily Mail, she was scouted to appear on the show, after performing at a local event last year.
