The sound of the morning dew – smooth, graceful and levitating in lightness. As comparisons go, she’s like a lighter shade of Maleh, with added edge.
Fairly new in the business, Mpho has been experimenting with music since 2015 after feeling miserable in her job and decided to rather pursue a passion that allows her to be sexy, fantastical and authentic.
Her clever and soulful mash-up covers – like singing Boom Shaka’s Lerato/Free to Erykah Badu’s Other Side of the Game instrumental to Brenda Fassie’s Too Late For Mama on a Fugees’ Ready Or Not harmony – got her some love and attention on Soundcloud.
The Boom Shaka /Erykah Badu cover is even playlisted on some radio stations like Gagasi FM.
Loves Light is her only original recording and it will be included on an up coming EP and full length album that she’s working on this year.
The video for Love’s Light is beautifully shot by Shike Olsen.
It’s the reconciliation of RnB, harmony vocal and Neo-Soul; where vintage meets new age, dipped in African subtleties and Tswana nuances. Mpho is one to watch.
