Now Watching: Gato Preto‘s Post-Apocalytpic ‘Barulho’

First of all this post is 3 weeks late (mea culpa). I could have let it go but Gato Preto is fast becoming a staple on my playlists.

Gato Preto (black cat em inglês) is a Ghanaian- Mozambican duo comprised of Gata Misteriosa and Lee Bass. The two are based in Portugal making the kind of music you psych up to. Imagine Angolan kuduro and heavy metal swapped friendship bracelets and you have Gato Preto’s sound.

The two recently dropped their Mad Maxesque video for their latest track “Barulho” which means noise in Portugese. The Alex Wurm-directed video sees the band traversing through time into a post-apocalyptic universe where the evil ruler General Distortion has seized power. To find the mysterious ancient drummer Gudugudu, Distortion needs Gato Preto’s help. After imprisoning Lee and Misteriosa; Distortion bargains with them. If they want their freedom they must capture Gudugudu and hand him over to him. Once he has killed Gudugudu (the only person left who knows the art of drumming) – Distortion alone will possess the very last Secrets of the Holy Beats and can finally control the Groove of the whole Universe .

Should they sacrifice their freedom or allow themselves to be used to capture Gudugudu?
