Solange Knowles is currently in South Africa to shoot a new music video for her upcoming song, “Losing You.”
The 26-year-old with the famous big sis who shall remain nameless is currently shooting in Cape Town to be exact. She tells The Sunday Times locations for the video “will largely be inspired by the color in the architecture and townships around here. We’ll just take a camera and see what happens.”
The song, she adds, is “eclectic with ’80s references and African percussion influences.”
Township chic can be so problematic. Let’s hope Solange handles South Africa township culture with delicate hands and doesn’t exoticize what is, for some, (not all) a daily battle against poverty and inequality.
In the meantime, here are some cool pics from Solange’s time in Cape Town.

Maybe instead of showing us where she comes from, she's interested in showing us who she wants to be and where she's heading to? That's genuine too. She strikes me as a woman who tries to find her true herself and tries grow as a person. Let's give her the benifit of the doubt. Maybe she's just aware of what a wonderful and exciting country South Africa is and really wanted to go discover it and work there for a bit. But I agree that it would be very annoying if all she's after is a bit of "colour" and exotism. Let's just see how things turn out.
I kinda like her for being so different from her sister but this girl doesn't strike me as deep either.
I know it is fashionable to be African these days but I d find it more genuine if she gave us something genuine to her roots and upbringing instead of always jumping on wagons.
I d hate to see Africa rising trend become a quick trend the way people exploited the hipster culture.
