Volvo Car SA and three of the country’s most prolific fashion designers team up in a first for South African luxury brand and fashion collaborations.
Three different Volvos have been matched to Nkhensani Nkosi, David Tlale, and Gert-Johan Coetzee (pictured top to bottom) based on their lifestyle and personalities: The founder of African urban label Stoned Cherrie and former host and spokesperson for M-Net’s Face of Africa Nkosi is paired up with the Volvo SUV model XC60. 2009 Arise Africa Fashion Awards’ Designer of the Year David Tlale’s hallmark is the dramatic and the flamboyant. So his Volvo fit is the new S60. Gert- Johan’s thing is red carpet glam. All of the big tickets from the annual South African Music Awards to Miss World pageants feature his must-haves. And he sports the new Volvo C30.
The big idea? The three will test-drive their rides starting today (1 June) and in that time design and create something inspired of that experience. Something the car, the driver or the passenger could do with, and something we get to see hopefully in a month’s time.
This won’t be the first time we’ve seen Volvo South Africa venture into partnerships with influential figures in South African pop culture. Rapper, radio host and anchor for Idols South Africa Proverb enjoys a well-publicised relationship with the fine motoring brand as its ambassador.
But this being a first for fashion, we look forward to what these creatives come up with.
