U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama landed in Pretoria on the first leg of her trip to South Africa with her daughters Sasha and Malia, her mom Marian Anderson, and niece and nephew.

Paying homage to the continent, the fab first lady arrived wearing a top by Nigerian designer, Duro Olowu.

The First Lady says her main goal in SA is to inspire youth and women. She’ll be meeting with President Jacob Zuma’s wife and Graca Machel, wife of former president, Nelson Mandela.

Meanwhile, several South African newspapers are reporting a frenzy to buy tickets to watch Oprah Winfrey get an honorary degree from a local university.

The Grio.com suggests that these two “first ladies” trips to the continent will have “a big impact.” While having Oprah and Mrs. Obama is surely welcomed, the idea that they’ll somehow change the landscape of Southern Africa seems a little excessive.

What do you think? Will Oprah and Michelle Obama have “a big impact” on Africa?
