Hugh Masekela was Miriam Makeba’s first husband and wrote a number of songs for her (like Soweto Blues). Besides Miriam Makeba he was the most successful musical export of South Africa in the sixties. And still is now as he continues to play for foreign audiences to the tune of the tens of thousands. We anticipate something intimate and very special from the two evenings where he and South African guest singers like Thandiswa Mazwai, Lira, Zolani from Freshly Ground remind us why Mama Afrika will live on within us forever.
