Nigerian artist D’Banj got the best 31st birthday present; a record deal with Kanye West. “Best birthday gift ever. God thank u,” tweeted D’Banj. Fellow Naija artist Don Jazzy (pictured) was also signed. Congrats to both!

US First Lady Michelle Obama and her daughters Sasha and Malia are making their way to South Africa. The trip, slated for June 21-26 with focus on youth leadership on the continent. Mrs. Obama will also be talking health and education.




Seun Kuti has finally released his hotly-anticipated album, titled “From Africa with Fury: Rise.” Like his father, Fela, Seun addresses social issues like poverty and corruption, with some funky horns to accompany, of course.




A big congrats to Congolese film “Viva Riva” which won an MTV Movie Award for Best African film. The indie flick is getting lots of rave reviews in the States. That award will surely take things to the next level.




DC Comic is looking to diversify things a little by creating the first ever African Batman.The new comic, called “Batwing #1,” will feature the first black character in Batman’s cap and cowl. Read more at Complex.

    this african batman seems interesting. Well it seems africa is on the up. Though, i wish with all the mythology of africa, that better african comics will surface and Wanuri's next scifi film is going to mark an epoch in african scifi.
