Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
WOMANKIND, leading charity for woman empowerment is celebrating 20 years of supporting women in the UK and abroad in spectacular literary style: Two of Afripop’s favourite writers, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Jackie Kay and singer Waje, will present an evening of readings, discussion and songs on Friday 3 April 2009.
2007 Orange prize winner Adichie will read from The Thing Around Your Neck, her current collection of stories described as a mesh of Nigerian and Western culture.
The Observer printed an excerpt from it last December and ran a q&a with her about her film choices last Sunday.

Jackie Kay
Glasgow-raised, Nigerian/Irish-descended Kay’s search for her biological parents is documented in a book she is presently writing, and from which she will read too.
She was one of three author’s of WOMANKIND’S short story collection, Grab Pots and Pans and Spoons and Make a Noise.
Hit up the Southbank Centre’s site for booking information and WOMANKIND’s for a look at their really important work and how you can be a part of it.
