The blogosphere is abuzz with news that next month’s Italian Vogue will feature all-black models, from the legendary Naomi Campbell to Liya Kebede and Jourdann Dunn. Shot by photographer Steven Meisel, the issue is an unofficial homage to the many black models who for so long worked international runways with little fanfare (with the exception of Naomi, Liya and Iman). Most of the features in the issue are about black women in the arts and entertainment. Should be one heck of a read. Of course the equally legendary fashion scribe, Cathy Horyn, of the New York Times got the first scoop. Read her piece here.

I especially loved this quote by Edward Enniful, a renowned stylist who worked on the issue:

“We created a story that reflected black dreams and aspirations. There was no hip-hop gangsterism, no ghetto fabulousness, no bling-bling clichés. Meisel simply shot a beautiful story with one of the most important icons of this century. His testimony to Naomi, who he first photographed at the age of 15, is both a love story and an ode to creativity, excellence and longevity.”

PREACH!

Do you love sis Naomi or what?
